For all companies with more than 50 employees, or 250 employees?

Specifically, the law requires companies with more than 50 employees to simply calculate their Scope 1 emissions—that is, the least interesting part of the assessment, the one that concerns only direct energy consumption: diesel, gasoline, wood, and coal. This accounts for very little—less than 10% of a company’s carbon footprint in most cases. The most interesting part of a carbon footprint assessment is Scope 2—the energy we purchase: electricity, heating, and cooling—but above all, Scope 3.

The Scope 3, which includes all the carbon I import through my purchases from suppliers, as well as the carbon I generate through the products I sell. That accounts for 80% of my carbon footprint. Today, if the law only requires Scope 1 reporting, it’s pointless. So we’re telling companies that they need to turn this requirement into a benefit!

To meet this requirement, they should prepare a comprehensive carbon footprint assessment covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, thereby taking full advantage of the economic and management benefits that a well-prepared, comprehensive carbon footprint assessment provides.

Companies with more than 250 employees are the primary ones required to complete this carbon assessment (covering all scopes of the carbon assessment) by December 31, 2022.

Companies with more than 50 employees have been granted a grace period until December 31, 2023.

For Mid-Sized Companies, Large Enterprises, and Local Governments?

All companies with more than 500 employees and all municipalities with more than 50,000 residents are required to conduct a regulatory GHG assessment (carbon footprint assessment) —at least once every three years for municipalities and at least once every four years for large companies.

It’s clear that they are becoming our primary clients because they’ve realized that, with easy access to the carbon footprint assessment methodology through our platform, they can conduct these assessments on their own and no longer need to rely on consultants—which means lower costs, shorter turnaround times, and, above all, improved efficiency in conducting these carbon footprint assessments, which they’ll be able to perform annually.
