Let's answer your questions!
What is decarbonizing purchasing?
Decarbonizing procurement—also known as “low-carbon procurement”—involves adopting practices aimed at reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated during the procurement process of a company or local government.
This means that organizations must calculate the carbon footprint of their products and services, which also includes activities related to their production, transportation, and disposal—that is, throughout the entire supply chain. The challenge is to minimize this impact by prioritizing products and suppliers that are more environmentally sustainable.
The process of decarbonizing procurement may include the following solutions:
- Assessing its operational data through the preparation of a greenhouse gas inventory
- Choosing Sustainable Purchases
- Collaboration with suppliers who have environmentally responsible practices
- Involvement in carbon offset projects.
Thus, decarbonizing procurement is a vital strategy for businesses and local governments to adopt. Indeed, it helps address the challenge of reducing GHG emissions and promotes more sustainable and environmentally friendly practices throughout the supply chain. The goal is to contribute to the fight against climate change and to foster the transition to a low-carbon economy.
How can I invite my customers and suppliers to the Decarbo’Solution® platform?
Decarbo’Solution® offers a comprehensive tool for sending invitations and submitting emission factor requests and reports.
This will allow you to invite your suppliers to the platform so they can calculate the carbon footprint of all their products. You’ll also be able to share your own emission factors with your customers, enabling them to measure their carbon impact more accurately.
Is it simple for my suppliers or does it require training?
The platform is suitable for all users, from beginners to experts. Thanks to video tutorials, FAQs, and methodological guides, your suppliers will be able to easily learn how to use the product carbon footprint calculation tool without needing specific training on the subject.
What are the benefits for my suppliers?
The benefits are simple:
- Free carbon footprint calculations for their products
- Compliance of calculations with ISO 14067
- Direct transmission of calculated emission factors from the Decarbo’Solution® platform to its customers.
Is the Decarbo’Solution® platform free for my suppliers?
The product carbon footprint calculator is available to everyone free of charge. Your suppliers will then be able to calculate the emission factor for each product in their catalog.
If they wish to undertake a more comprehensive process to conduct a GHG assessment of their company, they can also do so on the Decarbo’Solution® platform by purchasing an annual license.
What can I do if my supplier doesn't fill in the emission factors for its products?
While waiting for the product specifications from your suppliers, you can:
- Use an emission factor from a database provided by Decarbo’Solution® (Ademe methodology, BEIS [formerly UK DEFRA], Ecoinvent, INIES, etc.)
- Use the Composite Emission Factor tools, which allow you to calculate the carbon footprint of your suppliers’ products yourself based on information about the components and processes involved in manufacturing the products
Can the data collected from my suppliers be included in my GHG assessment?
Yes, the data collected from your suppliers is included in your GHG inventory. You can use your suppliers’ emission factors directly in your GHG inventory under the “Incoming Materials and Services” section.
BUYERS, YOUR COMPANY'S LOW-CARBON PATH IS IN YOUR HANDS.
