🎬 Interview with Louis Gac, Junior CTO at Decarbo’Solution®

Could you please introduce yourself and describe your role at Decarbo’Solution®?

Hello, I'm Louis. I've been a PHP developer since the early 2000s, which gives me expertise not only in these languages but also in the entire evolution of the web since the very beginning of the ICT revolution.

I am a Junior CTO at Decarbo’Solution®, a greentech company. I work closely with the Global CTO to lead our team of developers. It’s important to note that at Decarbo’Solution®, our development team is made up of experts in their respective fields.  I am therefore responsible for managing these teams, participating in development, and making decisions regarding strategic technological advancements.

What are the key technical features of the Decarbo’Solution® platform?

The Decarbo’Solution® platform is a LAMP-based web application—that is, Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. It was developed using the Laravel framework, which is one of the leading frameworks on the market and an industry standard. It uses MySQL technology for relational databases.

For the entire front-end portion, we use React, the front-end framework developed by Facebook, which is currently the industry-leading solution. This allows us to develop a high-quality API and provide users with a seamless experience.

What is the added value of this technology?

Currently, all of the technologies used to develop the Decarbo’Solution® platform can be containerized within Docker, which allows us to very easily migrate our solution from one platform to another or from one hosting solution to another. This enables us to adapt to the requirements of all types of companies—whether small or large—in any country.

Can we call this a smart platform?

It’s safe to say that the Decarbo’Solution® app relies heavily on crowdsourcing—that is, on the sharing of knowledge.

Specifically, Decarbo’Solution® users will be able to customize their questionnaires by creating personalized questionnaires. These personalized questionnaires can be adapted into questionnaire templates specific to each industry. In addition, goods suppliers will be able to create their own emission factors per unit of work.

Users also have the option to create composite emission factors. All of these additions can then be shared, made available to the community, and used by all platform users. As a result, with each iteration—the more people use the Decarbo’Solution®—the more customized questionnaires and composite emission factors we’ll have, and the more comprehensive our database will become, accurately reflecting the actual operations of our various clients.

What's the next project you'll be working on?

In the near future, Decarbo’Solution® faces two major challenges.

The first is to continuously improve the user interface. We already have a very intuitive interface, but it must be constantly improved to truly meet users’ needs as closely as possible.

The second point is aimed more at developers: we’re developing an API that’s accessible to third-party app developers so they can integrate Decarbo’Solution® into their own apps. So we’re currently working hard on this to create a well-documented API that’s easy for external developers to use.

What would you say to an entrepreneur to convince them to choose the Decarbo’Solution® platform?

Decarbo’Solution® is a truly unique solution on the market; thanks to its one-of-a-kind method, it not only allows you to track and calculate all of your carbon emissions but also enables you to prepare your carbon footprint report and then implement a strategy to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions in order to improve energy efficiency—and it can also help reassure investors.
