The Decarbo’Solution® calculator offers several types of outputs depending on an organization’s needs. It provides a simplified analytical report on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, a detailed analytical assessment describing emissions from each of the company’s activities, and a comparative assessment that enables organizations to track and monitor emissions over the years.

✅ Specific emission factors

Decarbo’Solution® incorporates all emission factors (EFs) from ADEME’s Carbone® and Impacts databases, as well as those from the BEIS database (formerly UK DEFRA). Emission factors from the EcoInvent and Inies databases can also be incorporated.

Furthermore, when entering a Carbone® carbon footprint, if the user cannot find a match in the emission factor databases already integrated into the Decarbo’Solution® platform, they have the option of using a specific emission factor from a source that they have identified and specified themselves.

The Decarbo’Solution® calculator allows you to perform carbon assessments at various levels for a single company, making it adaptable to any situation:

Thus, a client can conduct a carbon footprint assessment either as an overall assessment or broken down by activity, and then consolidate the various assessments for a given year.

It is also possible to break down emissions for each category according to freely chosen analytical criteria within the GHG inventory, which allows for an even more detailed level of analysis than that of the activity itself.

A "Monitoring" module allows you to track all entities and compare their progress.

📝Custom Data Entry Forms to Simplify Data Collection

Recognizing that data collection is one of the most challenging steps, Decarbo’Solution® has simplified this process by offering customized data entry questionnaires. Thus, data collection begins with online data entry via a questionnaire specifically tailored to the client’s reported activity. This questionnaire is divided into sections using an intuitive approach that allows data to be entered across seven emission categories, covering all regulatory items in the Carbon Footprint Assessment.

🎯 Once the data has been entered, the tool automatically allocates GHG emissions to the regulatory categories for the three scopes of the GHG Inventory, based on the FE used.

✍️ To meet the specific needs of different organizations, the Decarbo’Solution® calculator also offers questionnaires tailored to different types of activities (manufacturing, services, the service sector, events, logistics, real estate, transportation, local governments, etc.).

💪 This approach allows organizations or communities to adopt the models offered by Decarbo’Solution® and customize them to meet their specific needs. Users can thus modify the questionnaires by removing or adding specific questions and items to create customized questionnaires tailored to their industry or organization. This allows them, for example, to accurately quantify greenhouse gas emissions for specific elements that are not directly included in the original questionnaire.

📁 Once the organization has customized the questionnaire template, it can be imported automatically (via an Excel file) to replace the default template corresponding to its type of activity. The organization can then share (export) this questionnaire template with other employees and/or reuse it for future carbon footprint reports.

Decarbo’Solution® offers collaborative features that allow multiple users to work together on the platform. Each client can create multiple login accounts and manage their access rights, thereby facilitating collaborative entry of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data.

To facilitate communication among employees, comments can be added to each question on the form. These comments are internal and do not appear in the final assessment report. In addition, a history of entries and comments is maintained to ensure better traceability.

Each question is also accompanied by a status that indicates whether the entry is complete or requires additional information. This allows multiple users of the same customer account to collaborate based on their respective areas of expertise and contribute effectively to the development of the carbon footprint assessment.

Thanks to these collaborative features, users can work together, share their knowledge and skills, and produce a more accurate and comprehensive carbon footprint assessment.

📉 The SBT Path

By using the Decarbo’Solution® platform, users can set Science-Based Targets (SBTs). SBTs involve defining long-term strategies (for 2035 and 2050) in line with climate science recommendations to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to below 2°C, or even 1.5°C.

The greenhouse gas emissions reduction trajectories defined under the SBT framework can be exported and viewed in the full PDF report generated by Decarbo’Solution®. By submitting multiple emissions reports for different years, users can compare actual emissions with their chosen trajectory.

This feature allows them to track their progress and ensure that their actions are aligned with the goals set by the SBTs.

In fact, the Decarbo’Solution® platform offers its “Décarbon’achats” module , which allows users to request the specific emission factors (EFs) from their suppliers, ensuring a more accurate quantification of their carbon footprint. The EFs provided by suppliers are much more accurate than the “average” emission factors available in standard databases.

In addition, if a supplier does not have the FE requested by its customer, the Decarbo’Solution® platform offers two options for quantifying this FE:

✅ Suppliers who understand the processes in their value chain can use the Decarbo’Solution® tool to conduct a comprehensive assessment of their operations’ greenhouse gas emissions on the platform. They can then accurately allocate the emissions identified in this assessment to their production units using a dedicated module.

This module complies with the allocation principles defined by the ISO 14 067 standard, which specifically addresses the carbon footprint of products. The database of FE values per unit of work is automatically updated and made available to all registered customers, enabling them to improve the accuracy of their calculations.

👉 “Composite” emission factor:

✅ If a supplier is unable to calculate an emission factor per unit of work, the Decarbo’Solution® platform provides its clients with a module for creating “composite” emission factors. This module is directly inspired by ADEME’s Bilan Produit® tool and allows users to calculate customized emission factors.

Thanks to the various interconnected databases, notably ADEME’s Base Impacts database, users can calculate customized life cycle assessments (LCAs) that precisely correspond to the processes and materials used in a product’s design.

Using information provided by their supplier—such as a material’s composition, the energy required to produce it, and transportation during the manufacturing process—users can calculate a product’s FE themselves using the Decarbo’Solution® platform interface and incorporate it into their Carbon Footprint calculations.

This composite FE generation module also complies with the allocation principles defined by the ISO 14 067 standard.

These two modules therefore help create a virtuous cycle between customers and suppliers, enabling them to define shared reduction pathways that are essential for reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions.
