Background
Since its founding in the 1970s in Provence, Indies has combined artisanal craftsmanship with contemporary design. Today, the company is committed to sustainable transformation: it designs its collections using carefully selected materials, works primarily with manufacturers located within 1,500 km of its workshop, and places managing its carbon footprint at the heart of its strategy.
By committing to a low-carbon approach with Decarbo’Solution®, the group is taking a new step in its evolution—that of a company that wants to innovate without compromising the future.
Company Overview
Why did you decide to commit to a low-carbon transition?
Our initial goal was to conduct an assessment using a carbon footprint analysis to establish a baseline. We then sought to identify the most effective action plans as part of our effort to reduce GHG emissions. This process raises awareness, enabling us to take action and subsequently make improvements.
What have been the results of your collaboration with Decarbo’Solution®?
Our collaboration with Decarbo’Solution® went smoothly and was a positive experience. They guided us through the process of gathering information, which is the most time-consuming part.
We had to figure out where to find the data within our business software and how to use it for the carbon footprint assessment. Christopher’s expertise was invaluable.
What are the key figures from your GHG assessment?
The breakdown of the Indies Group's expenses is typical for a ready-to-wear fashion company. The main challenge lies in the purchase of goods and services.
How was this initiative presented to and received by your teams? Your management? Your suppliers? Your partners?
The initiative is generally well received, even though it places an additional workload on the teams.
And we don’t always have sufficient staff.Management is committed to this initiative and recognizes that reducing GHG emissions will initially involve some challenges and changes in behavior.
We have a very broad range of partners, and not all of them are equally receptive.
A banker will view a carbon footprint report favorably, whereas our smaller suppliers will be indifferent to it.
What are your key areas of focus for 2025–2026?
Incorporate more recycled materials into our collections to reduce the carbon footprint associated with raw materials.
Select low-carbon contract manufacturers, taking into account their location, manufacturing processes, and environmental commitments.
Conduct a survey on customers’ travel habits to better understand and reduce the carbon footprint associated with their visits to the store.
Expand telework and encourage sustainable transportation options (bicycles, public transit, etc.) for employees’ commutes.
Work with logistics providers committed to a decarbonization pathway, and include this criterion in requests for proposals.
Develop a responsible procurement policy that incorporates clear social and environmental criteria to guide procurement decisions.
Encourage the purchase of electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles for business travel or the company fleet.
Implement initiatives to raise awareness among staff about energy conservation (eco-friendly habits, best practices in the office and while traveling).
